NFR RPF rescues 498 children in 2017

GUWAHATI, March 6: The RPF, NF Railway, rescued 498 children leading to the arrest of 14 traffickers in 2017, against 437 and 206 children respectively in 2016 and 2017.   According to a press release issued by NF Railway, all divisions have pressed into service mobile security squad in stations and trains to watch for any suspicious movement in trains and stations premises. The rescued children were subsequently handed over to their guardians or to NGOs for proper care and rehabilitation. RPF, NF Railway has also been doing a commendable service in the field of detection and recovery of contraband goods. In the year 2017 alone 160 cases of recovery were made, 68 offenders were arrested and goods worth Rs.5.1 crore were recovered. This is much higher than the figures in the year of 2016 where goods worth Rs.3.6 crore had been recovered and 134 cases registered, the release said.

Two tax officials sent to jail

GUWAHATI, March 6:  The special judge court sent two tax superintendents – Vikash Kumar Pincha and Mas Pratim Haoloi – to 14-day judicial remand on Tuesday. The two tax officials had been arrested by Dibrugarh police in connection with the APSC's cash-for-job scam recently.     

Court rejects bail plea of former DIPR

GUWAHATI, March 6: The special judge court rejected the bail plea of former DIPR Ranjit Gogoi on Tuesday. Gogoi had been arrested in connection with the Rs 30-crore scam in the DIPR by the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell in November last.

V&AC raids Kalakshetra

GUWAHATI, March 6: Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V&AC) sleuths raided Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakhestra for around two-hours-and-half on Tuesday in connection with the Rs 1.10-crore misappropriation of fund case. The sleuths took the then casher of the Sankardev Kalakshetra Society when the misappropriation of funds took place, Dwipen Sarma, along with them while conducting the raid.  

Blood dotion camp

GUWAHATI, March 6: A blood dotion-cum-health camp was conducted at Bamunimaidam in Guwahati by Dayashankar Research (DS) Centre on Tuesday.  Over 100 patients got treatment free of cost, besides 50 persons doting blood, at the camp.

Scholarship test for BPL students on March 25

GUWAHATI, March 6: Cluster of Stars, a charitable trust, located at Pandu, Guwahati has announced scholarship test for BPL students for pursuing free of cost education, including lodging, food, clothing from class VII to any level like medical, engineering, MBA, CA etc.

Any male child of the Northeast belonging to BPL categories whose annual family income is below Rs. 60,000 and who has passed VI standard or appeared but result awaited and those who are physically fit and free from any kind of contagious diseases and willing to stay in hostel provided by the trust can appear in the test. Origil BPL certificates, income certificates and class VI mark sheets are necessary for the test.
