GUWAHATI, June 5: Former State minister Pradyut Bordoloi, who is a senior Congress leader, said that the Sarbanda Sonowal-led BJP government at Dispur does not want to update the NRC, and as such it is playing a delaying tactics.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, Bordoloi said: “The works of the State Government don’t reflect Dispur’s eagerness to update NRC. Sonowal has to make his stand on the fate of NRC clear.”

Bordoloi said: “Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma doesn’t want NRC update since he wants 1951 to the cut-off date for detection of foreigners instead of 1971 as stated in the Assam Accord. This is the reason behind Sarma not releasing NRC funds.”

Taking a dig at the Centre, Dordoloi said: “The Centre has a plan to provide opportunities to Bangladeshi Hindues entering India till December 31, 2014 to get PAN Cards, bank accounts and buying houses. We’re going to oppose the move as we want deportation of foreigners in accordance with the Assam Accord.”
