Complete all works before monsoon: DC

GUWAHATI, March 18: Kamrup (M) DC Birendra Mittal, who is also the district flood review and observation committee chairman, has asked all concerned in the district to ensure that no residents in the district are affected during the ensuing monsoon.

Mittal chaired a meeting of the committee at Circuit House in the city. He asked the State Forest Department to cut all dry branches and other branches of trees that may lead to accidents during the monsoon.

Mittal asked the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) to complete its ongoing works well ahead of the monsoon. The GMC has been asked to complete the work of cleaning choked drains in the city. In order to help control damage during disasters, the DC has opened a control room in his office premises. He made in clear that if any official is found to keep his/her mobile switched off during disasters action will be taken in accordance with the relevant Act. Cleaning of 330 drains and five wetlands in the city is going on now. 

Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, GMC Commissioner Molisa Goswami and officials from departments concerned attended the meeting.
