Complete Bhupendra Samadhi by January, 2017: Sonowal

GUWAHATI, August 31: Assam Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, accompanied by Cultural Affairs Minister ba Doley and PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, today visited the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Khetra and asked the Department concerned to complete the work of the project by January 2017.

The directive from the Chief Minister came close on the heels of The Sentinel publishing a news item headlined – Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi project stuck in time warp – in its August 31, 2016 issue giving a vivid picture of the plight of the project.

Sonowal today visited Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Khetra at Jalukbari and took stock of construction work of the site, a press release said. Sonowal paid homage to the late cultural icon of the state by lighting earthen lamps. He thanked the people of the state for their continued support at the completion of the first 100 days of the government and also sought cooperation in coming days as well so that the government can keep performing its duties with same sincerity, dedication and commitment. The Chief Minister has directed all officials concerned to complete the remaining works in the memorial within January 2017.
