GUWAHATI, March 31: Accusing the BJP of trying to polarize Assam on religious grounds, former Union exterl affairs minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Thursday carried out an all out attack on Prime Minister rendra Modi in Guwahati.

Addressing a press conference in the city, Khurshid said, “BJP is trying religious polarization in the India. But, they should remember that India is a democratic, secular country and the BJP’s agenda will not succeed here.”

Stating that a ‘prime minister should act like a prime minister’, Khurshid said, “In the last two years he (Modi) had been just making promise, promise and promise, but delivered nothing.”

“The prime minister often say, in India and abroad that Rs 34,000 crore has been deposited in banks through the zero balance- Jan Dhan Yoja. I would be happy, if he can show a single account where an amount was deposited while opening it,” Khurshid said in a challenging tone.

Alleging that Modi is busy in a one man show, the senior Congress leader said, “I had not seen any Prime Minister earlier who decides on his own without consulting with the party.”

Further stating that what happened in Aruchal and Uttarakhand is a threat to the democratic fabric of the country, he said, “The atmosphere they (BJP) have created is a threat to the country, but in a State like Assam, they will not succeed.”

Speaking on the sealing of Indo-Bangladesh border, the former Union exterl affairs minister said that sealing of border is necessary but important is to have control of the border. “Sealing of the Indo-Bangladesh border is important, but what is more important is to have control in the border areas and the pockets nearby as complete sealing of the border is not possible because of massive water bodies the come along in the path. So, we should vigilance and control in our hands.”

Meanwhile, accusing the NDA step-motherly attitude towards Assam, Khurshid said that Modi promised acche din but scrapped special status and enjoyed by Assam as well as the industrial policy which was specially designed for the State.
