Demand for CBI probe into MDC anomalies

GUWAHATI, Oct 15: Okram Prasanta Singha, a citizen, has demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged misuse of funds by the Manipuri Development Council (MDC).

“The department of WPT and BC sanctioned Rs 2.4 crore in 2011-12, Rs 2.3 crore in 2012-13, Rs 3.2 crore in 2013-14 and Rs 3.5crore in 2014-15 to the MDC. The utilization certificate of which shows Rs 10.40 crore, but implementation of schemes is not found on the ground. There should be a CBI inquiry into this,” Singha said.

“There is a misrepresentation of utilization of funds in delivery of utensils for rituals. Rs 20.50 lakh is said to be spent in 2011-12 and Rs 23.50 in 2013-14 and 2014-15. No construction of skill development centre at Chandrapur village has been done,” Singha added.

Singha also said that due to lack of guidelines by the WPT and BC Department corruption is rampant in the MDC and its members are uware of the schemes.
