Demonetization to give us new India: Bora

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 14: ‘I’ve had the taste that one gets after winning a great war,” said former State PWD Minister and Dispur MLA Atul Bora, while expressing his reaction to Prime Minister rendra Modi demonetizing 500 and 1,000 rupee notes.

Talking to The Sentinel over telephone today, Bora said: “I admit that this step has created problems for all. However, such a step is the need of the hour to deal a blow to those who amass black money and adopt corrupt practices. The step has also dealt a blow to those who circulate fake notes in the market. This step will benefit all of us in the long run, an assurance the Prime Minister is giving to the people of the tion. Black money has paralysed the economy of the country. It also increases the prices of all commodities as people holding black money can buy goods at any cost and make the situation the worst for the poor. After the demonetization, Rs 15,000 crore was found in the godown in a state. In Assam also huge amount of black money has been recovered. Despite the problem, the youth have hailed the step taken by Modi who sought a stipulated time of 50 days. I think everything will be back on track within 25 days.”

“In the past 15 years the government of Tarun Gogoi looted the State exchequer. Against this, in just five months the Sarbanda Sonowal Government has done a lot. There was Rs 2,000 crore scam in Social Welfare Department, but Gogoi took no action against the minister and the bureaucrats. However, the initiative taken by Sonowal has led to the arrest of DFO Mahat Talukdar to that of APSC chairman Rakesh Paul,” Bora said, and added: “The decision taken by Modi will give us a new India from 2017.”
