GUWAHATI, Sept 26: State DGP Mukesh Sahay iugurated the Athgaon Sarbajanik Durga Puja Samiti in Guwahati amidst ululation and the sweet sound of conch shell on Tuesday evening.

According to the priest of the puja samiti, Sashthi Puja is from 3 pm to midnight on Tuesday. The Mahasaptami Puja is from 7 am on to 10 am on Wednesday, the Mahastami is from 7 am to 10 am on Thursday. The Sandhi Puja is from 7.07 pm to 8.56 pm on Thursday, the priest said, and added: “As many as 108 flames and as many lotuses are needed for this puja. It was Lord Rama who first performed this puja.”

The vami Puja, according to the priest, is from 7 am to 10.01 am on Friday. The Dashami Puja, the priest said, is from 6.50 am to 9.30 am. The emersion time is from 10 am. “Women devotees gather on this occasion to make merry and play Holi with vermilion. The parting of the Goddess sends the women devotees and others misty-eyed,” the priest said.

Puja samiti secretary Sundeep And said: “Devotees do throng the puja pandal till 4 am in the morning to take the blessings of the Goddess. Since people throng almost round the clock, we’ve made volunteers to render their services in two shifts. We’ve a podium for the committee members so as to keep a watch on the entire puja and anything untural. If we receive any complaint from any devotees of having been done something wrong by others, we can take the service of the CCTV cameras to ascertain the veracity and take action with the help of the police.”
