Drive against drink and drive

GUWAHATI, Dec 27: Following State Transport Minister Chandra Mohon Patowary’s strict instructions to create awareness on road safety in the state an  enforcement team under Kamrup DTO Ranjit Das launched drive against drunken drivers and riders.   

The drive was launched at Rangia town and Tamulpur from the evening of December 26 to midnight against the law-breakers.

As many as 11 cases were registered and fine of Rs 2500 was collected. Six drivers were arrested after they failed in breath-alyser test and their driving licenses were seized.

The enforcement team also launched a drive against bikers who were drinking and driving and drivers who were not using seat belts while driving.

 The Kamrup DTO said that the drive was not simply meant to collect fines but to create awareness on road safety so that drivers and riders follow the road safety instructions.
