Floods make KVIB to reset flag sale target

Guwahati, Aug 11: Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board’s target of selling tiol flags worth Rs 20 lakh on the occasion of this Independence Day has plummeted to Rs 15 lakh in the wake of the recent flood that has lashed the State. 
As on August 11, the Board has sold 7, 324 pieces of flags. This year, during the Republic Day celebration tiol Flags worth Rs 12,10,000 were sold. 
“We were optimistic to scale up our sale, but we had to lower the target because of the recent deluge which has submerged most of the locations across the State. The target was kept in response to the high demand for Khadi flags over flags made of plastics and paper,” said an official of Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board. Rains have also affected printing snd drying up the flags. 
Currently, around 21 women are engaged in stitching and printing of the tricolor. 
The biggest flag made by the board measuring 6 foot x 4 foot is priced at Rs 500, while flags measuring 3x4 ½ sq. ft cost Rs 370, Rs 200 for flags measuring 2x3 sq ft,  1 ½ x 2 ¼  sq foot and 1x 1 ½  sq ft are priced at Rs 130 and Rs 90 respectively. The flag measuring 6 inch x 9 inch is priced at Rs 60.
