GUWAHATI, April 12: Upen Raj th, a former member of BJP’s Vision Document Team, foresees a Sumi-like situation in Assam if the recently signed India-Bangladesh agreement on the dredging of the Brahmaputra is implemented only in Assam, not in Bangladesh.

According to th, the agreement has three main components – dredging 841 km of the Brahmaputra from Sadia to Dhubri, construction of 1300-km express way on either bank of the Brahmaputra from Sadiya to Dhubri and dredging the Brahmaputra from Dhubri up to Bay of Bengal. “If dredging is done in Luit in Assam and Jamu in Bangladesh, both the banks of Luit will get rid of floods. However, if dredging is done only in Assam, and not in Bangladesh, a Sumi-like situation will affect Assam,” he said.
