Guwahati, Nov 24: Silence is all set to tell many tales here with a four-day mime show to kick off this weekend at Rabindra Bhawan here.

The show to be organized by Mime Academy, run by veteran mime artiste Moinul Haque, in association with Sangit tak Akademi, will be iugurated by noted actor Pranjal Saikia on Saturday at 6 pm. The four-day festival organized as a part of the golden jubilee celebration of the Mime Academy will be concluded on November 29.

“Several mime- artistes of the state will participate at the four-day event to give the audience a wonderful experience of the mime world. We hope the festival will prove to be one of the most beautiful experiences for the audience,” said Haque.

Haque was awarded the Sangeet tak Akademi Award for his contribution to mime. He has single-handedly popularised the art in the Northeast after years of dedicated work.

The souvenir to be published on the occasion will be released by novelist and play-wright Arun Sarma.

Haque said some very popular plays like America America, The Bird, The Barber, Intrusion, Health Centre, Use Me, Child Labour, Dowry and Gobhait Chor will be staged during the show.

America America mocks the craze of a section of parents to send their children to America for studies and have them settled there. Intrusion throws light on immigration from Bangladesh to Assam and its consequence on the demographic pattern on the state.

Health Centre shows how employees in a health centre blame one another when a patient dies.

Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika and Axom Xahitya Xabha (AXX) president Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora will attend as guests at the show.
