GUWAHATI, Aug 26: The Tai AhomYuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) has spelt it out in no uncertain terms that it will be compelled to act on its own if the police in the State fail to act against those traders involved in the recent incident in gaon.
Talking to the media at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday, TYPA president Dilip Gogoi said: “We want gaon SP Sanjib Saikia and the DSP be relieved from service within 28 hours. They should also be imprisoned for life so that no other police personnel in the State dare to oppress locals at the behest of outsiders. If the Assam Police can’t act on its own, we’re ready to do the job from our end. We’ve started our agitation in various areas, and we’re ready to intensify it.”
On the issue of ming model colleges after Padnit Deendayal Upadhayay, Gogoi said: “This is not acceptable to us under any circumstances. State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was elected by the people of the State, has shown his disrespect to the people of the State by taking such a decision. If he doesn’t want to respect all those great sons of the soil by ming such colleges after them, let him leave Assam and reside somewhere else in the country.”
Meanwhile, the PYPA is going to celebrate Lachit Divas on November 24, 2017 when it will give away Lachit Award to Jayanta Baruah, the owner of a media house. The function will be held at Simanta Kalakshetra in the city.
