GMDA expansion plan hits DKZTS roadblock

From our Correspondent

AZARA, Feb 21: The expansion plan of the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has hit yet another roadblock, now the Dakshin Kamrup Zila Tribal Sangha (DKZTS) that has adopted a resolution to oppose the move tooth and il.

The GMDA has a plan to expand its perimeter up to Chhaygaon Revenue Circle, including Palasbari Revenue Circle and Azara Revenue Circle. The move, if accomplished, will add 1,061 more villages to the GMDA.

The Sangha had its annual conference at Rani Rajapani Chanda ME School with its president Umanda Rabha in the chair. “It’s a conspiracy on the part of the government to destroy the tribal belts located in Dakshin Kamrup. This is the precursor to abolish the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) on the part of Dispur,” the conference said.

The conference took a resolution to oppose the move to expand the GMDA towards Dakshin Kamrup tooth and il. The other resolution taken at the conference are immediate eviction of people occupying tribal lands in South Kamrup,  reservation of Palasbari and West Guwahati LACs for tribals in 2016 Assembly elections in the State, etc.
