Governor conveys his message on Buddha Purnima

GUWAHATI, May 20: Governor of Assam & galand, Hon'ble P B Acharya has conveyed his message to the people on Buddha Purnima. He said that the 2560th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha will be celebrated tomorrow throughout the world.

He further said that Ahimsa is one of the cardil virtues and an important tenet of Buddhism and also of Jainism and Hinduism. Ahimsa is a multidimensiol concept, inspired by the premise that all living beings have the spark of the divine spiritual energy; therefore, to hurt another being is to hurt oneself.  Buddhism, the Governor said, has played a positive and favourable role in the South East Asian countries which needs to be strengthened more and more by friendship, cooperation, trade and business. It can be a big source of Spiritual Tourism. India can invite the followers of Buddhism in the me of Spiritual Tourism to places of Buddhist interest like Bodh Gaya, Sarth, Kushigar etc.

The Governor further said that Universities can be the centres of strengthening friendship by offering courses in Buddhism and Buddhist philosophy. Language courses in Pali, Prakrit etc. can also be started.

Buddhism should be one of the greatest diplomatic forces for promotion of friendship and fraternity. Buddha Purnima is the day we think of strengthening friendship, cooperation and development of South East Asian countries, he added.

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Governor said, has proved that Buddhism can bring equity in human relations especially where there is persecution and discrimition in the me of religion. The Governor has appealed to all to promote the teachings of Lord Buddha, particularly his messages of peace and nonviolence.
