Governor flags off 'Bharat Jago Daur'

GUWAHATI, Sept 11: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday flagged off a half marathon christened ‘Bharat Jago Dour’ (India Awake and Run) to commemorate the 124th anniversary of Swami Vivekanda’s Chicago speech at SAI Complex in Guwahati.

It may be mentioned that “Bharat Jago Dour” is observed every year as a mark of respect and remembrance of how Swami Vivekanda had aroused the spirit of youth of the country to motivate and channelize their energy for tion building.

Organized by Kreeda Bharati the half marathon was participated by students of different city schools.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, “The need of the hour is to get the coming generations of our country acquainted with the ideals and philosophy of Swami Vivekanda. The moral degradation that we are experiencing today can be addressed by Swamiji’s teachings”.

The Governor also said that it was Swami Vivekada who had popularized  ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ to the world. He also asked the Kreeda Bharati to take the initiative of popularizing Swamiji and his teachings among the students’ community. Terming that the children are the future of the country, he reiterated the need of bringing about transformation in the value system of the students and said that Swamiji’s teachings would help the students to inculcate good values in them because students with sound values can lead the country to prosperity.
