Governor presents Amal Prova Sarvodaya Award

GUWAHATI, Nov 12: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit presented Amal Prova Das Sarvodaya Award-2016 to veteran Gandhian Dwarika Barua on the occasion of 105th birthday of Late Amal Prova Das today. The Award carries cash Rs. 25,000, a citation, an eri chadar, a sarai and a gamosa.

Speaking on the occasion the Governor said Mahatma Gandhi was a towering persolity who exemplified a unique co-existence of politics and principle, pleasure and conscience, knowledge and character, worship and sacrifice. Terming the burgeoning gap between these virtues as a sin, he called upon everybody to emulate the life of Gandhiji and strike a balance between these virtues to lead a life a complete man.

Citing corruption as an evil in society, Purohit also lauded the efforts of Prime Minister rendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal for cracking down on corruption and corrupt officials to wipe out corruption. Hailing Dwarika Barua, who is a devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhabe, Purohit said Dwarika Barua is a living example who has created a niche in society by glorifying and championing the tenets of Gandhian Philosophy.

Purohit also conferred Dr. Harekrish Das Award to Dr. Rupjyoti Sharma, a topper in surgery and Dr. Tilottoma Rai Choudhury Memorial Award to Dr. Vijaya Agarwala, Dr. Aviba D.N. Singh and Abhiyan Syiemlleh the topper in Obstetrics and Gynecology in MBBS examition conducted by the Shankardeva University of Health Science.
