GUWAHATI, Oct 14: The RSS is going to hold Northeast’s first mammoth Hindu congregation in Guwahati on January 21 next – Luitporia Hindu Samabesh. There have been widespread speculations that the grand Hindu meet in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha poll is set to polarize the region’s indigenous people, especially the Hindus in Assam.

A top-level source in the RSS said: “Luitporia Hindu Samabesh will be first of its kind in the Northeast. It will be graced by RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat. The grand Hindu congregation was first scheduled to be held at AEI playground at Chandmari in Guwahati. However, gauging the huge response to the congregation, we had no way out but to change the venue to the Veteriry College playground at Khapara in the city. Till September this year, over 30,000 RSS workers have enrolled themselves to be present at the Samabesh. Apart from RSS workers and leaders, the congregation will be attended by BJP leaders and cadres, ABVP members and members and leaders of other organizations and bodies allegiant to the Sangh Parivar.”

The source further said: “Apart from martial arts and parade by RSS members, the grand congregation will showcase the cultural richness, religious and other traditions of the Northeast. RSS chief Bhawagat is likely to disclose the Northeast policy of the Sangh. In order to make the grand congregation a success, district and subdivision-level meetings are being held in the State.” Political pundits in Assam view the proposed Hindu meet as a move to polarize the Hindus and other indigenous people of Assam and the entire region in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha poll. When viewed from all angles, the Hindu congregation is considered a significant move in the Northeast and politics in the region, especially in Assam.
