Halt eviction drives: LDMA

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 2: The Left-Democratic Manch, Assam (LDMA) staged a dhar at Lakhiram Bora Kshetra in the city today in support of their demand for an immediate halt to the eviction drives taking place in various parts in the city till altertive rehabilitation and compensation are ensured.

The LDMA members who were on a dhar said: “The people who are being evicted by branding them as people of suspected tiolities are in fact flood-and-erosion-affected people hailing from various districts of the State. Since these people have submitted all documents for NRC update based on March 24, 1971 as the cut-off date, they can’t be foreigners. The Supreme Court accepts March 24, 1971 as the cut-off date for NRC update. We, therefore, demand of the government to halt its eviction drives till it makes arrangements for rehabilitation and compensation of the affected families.”
