GUWAHATI, April 3: The Gauhati High Court has asked Dispur to pay compensation amounting to Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of each of the five people killed in police firing at Bengtol in Chirang district in 2008. The order was passed by the bench of Justice Achintya Malla Bujor Barua. It was on March 13, 2008 that the incident occurred at Bengtol when the surrendered NDFB rebels were being shifted from their camp there to another place. It was the market day at Bengtol. Aprat from the killing of five, a number of others were injured in the police firing. Those killed in the firing were Baburam rzary, Monen Borgoary, Binoy Basumatary, Gita rzary and Niranjan rzary. The Gauhati High Court did ask Chirang District and Session Judge to conduct an inquiry into the incident, and the latest directive from the High Court is based on the inquiry report submitted by the session judge. The order further said that the injured in the police firing may apply before their district authorities substantiating to the ture injuries.
