HYCPA against move to open Stillwell Route

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 28: The Hindu Yuba-Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA) has raised its voice against the move to open the Stillwell Route for increased trade.

In a statement issued to the press today, HYCPA president Balen Baishya and general secretary Dipangkar Gohain said: “While delivering the first KD Goswami Memorial Lecture at Gauhati University yesterday, former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai said that the opening of the Stillwell route would open new vistas of trade opportunities for Northeast India. We can’t support the opening of Stillwell route putting the security of the tion at stake. Such a move is tantamount to unrolling the red carpet to an aggressive Chi. This suggestion wasn’t expected from Pillai. Pillai is suggesting a slew of measures to be taken for the development on the Northeast now. What prevented him from translating all these suggestions into reality when he had been Union Home Secretary?”
