DRSC worried sick about rising crimes against women

GUWAHATI, March 26: Worried sick about the rising crimes against women in Assam, the departmentally related standing committee (DRSC) mooted the State Home Department to introduce proper legislation to check the mece in the State. The standing committees tabled its report in the State Assembly on Monday.

Assam has been literally boiling on crimes against women, the latest being the rape and murder of a minor girl at Batadrava in gaon district. The heat of the heinous crime led legislators engaged themselves in a hot altercation on the floor of the Assembly on Monday, let alone various organizations and political parties staging protest processions in the State. The Opposition was able to elicit from the government what steps it had taken to prevent such crimes.  The standing committee observed the alarmingly rising tendency of violence against women, including trafficking, rape etc., in the State.  The committee recommended for a firm and quick measure to be taken up by the Home Department by implementing proper steps such as school-level education, mobile app, awareness campaign in remote areas, deployment of women police, encouraging women cab drivers etc. The committee further suggested for steps to be taken up by the Home Department for introducing a proper legislation for prevention of crimes against women etc.
