KAAC term extended

GUWAHATI, Jan 16: The Assam Governor has extended the term of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for a period of six months with effect from January 13, 2017 or till the date of 1st sitting after completion of the fresh poll to the KAAC to be conducted by the Assam State Election Commission, whichever is earlier. The term of the present KAAC has expired on January 13, 2017. The State Election Commission said that it would not be practicable to hold the election to the Council January 13, 2017 due to uvoidable circumstances arising out of publication of the Electoral Roll on December 31, 2016, a press release said.
