KSA demands probe into AKDC

GUWAHATI, June 6: The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Kamrup has moved WPT & BC Minister Pramila Rani Brahman with the demand for an inquiry into corruptions that had took place in the Amri Karbi Development Council (AKDC) in the past two years. A KSA team led by its president Bishnu ndan Teron today submitted a memorandum to the minister.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, Teron said that they had raised the corruption that took place in the AKDC before the minister.

He said: “It has been observed that there are various anomalies in the AKDC amounting to over Rs 14 crore in fiscal 2013-14 and 2014-15. A number of cheques issued to beneficiaries by the AKDC were bounced due to insufficient funds in the council’s account. Some of the cheques are meant for Rs. 2.51 crore covering schemes like piggery, public stage and community halls; a sum of Rs. 6 crore allotted to a scheme to empower women by way of distributing cotton yarn; Rs. 4.30 crore allotted for helping the economically poor by way of distributing GCI sheets; Rs 10 lakh allotted for a documentary of the community; Rs. 20 lakh allotted for census of the community, etc.”

Teron said that the schemes that had been under taken in fiscals 2013-14 and 2014-15 were still to be implemented, and as such no fund should be allotted to the council in the new fincial year till an investigation is done. He said that the minister assured them of doing the needful.
