GUWAHATI, Dec 14:  Following a directive from State Forest and Environment Minister Pramila Rani Brahma the only commutable road connecting Garbhanga reserve forest and Lokhra is under repair.

The repair work is undertaken by South Guwahati Regiol Forest Officer’s office under East Kamrup forest division.

Earlier, the forest minister, along with East Kamrup DFO Ranjit Konwar and West Guwahti regiol forest officer Binod Kumar Payeng, inspected the deplorable condition of the road.

Around Rs 7.85 lakh will be spent under Assam Projects on Forest and Biodiversity Conservation (APFBC) Scheme for repair of the road following the forest minister’s order. As part of repairing work initially huge potholes are filled with pebbles and earth for making trucks commutable on the road.

The repair work of the 15-kilometre-long road from South Guwahati regiol forest office located at Lokhra via Magzine, Borpani and Sorupani to Garbhanga Forest office is scheduled to be completed before April next year. The inspection of the repairing will be under East Kamrup DFO Ranjit Konwar and South Guwahti regiol forest officer Binod Kumar Payeng.
