GUWAHATI, Nov 20: Uncertainty continues to haunt a section of students of Assam – who have their eyes set on the Joint Entrance Examition (JEE) 2017, an all-India entrance test for admission into the engineering institutes in the country – as the submission of adhar card has been made mandatory for the entrance test. As it always does, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has taken up the issue with Dispur, the Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) so as to make a special provision for the students of Assam.
Unlike other States in the country, adhar cards have not been issued to the citizens in Assam where the process of NRC update is going on following a directive from the Supreme Court of India and under its stewardship.
In a statement issued to the press today, the students’ body appealed to the Centre not to make the submission of adhar card compulsory for the students of Assam who are going to take in the JEE, 2017, for adhar cards have not been issued to the people of the State. “It is only after the completion of the ongoing NRC update exercise, adhar cards may be issued to the citizens of Assam,” said AASU president Dipangko Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
The AASU leaders said that it is the duty of the Chief Minister and the State Education Minister to get the problem of the students of the State solved through talks with the HRD Ministry and the authorities in the CBSE. They said that they are going to send missives to the HRD Minister and the authorities in the CBSE so as to make a special provisions for the students of Assam going to take in the JEE test in 2017.
