Martyr jourlists' kin feted

GUWAHATI, Sept 11: The All Assam Jourlists’ Association (AAJA) felicitated the next of kin of jourlists, who had lost their lives while performing duty, at Guwahati Press Club here today. Speaking on the occasion, State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma said that the government had announced ex gratia of around Rs 5 lakh to the family members of the martyr jourlists. Expressing heart-felt gratitude to the next of kin of martyr jourlists, she said that this government would surely live up to the expectations of people on what the previous government had missed out. When asked if there is any scheme for appointment of the slain jourlists’ family members in the government, she said that the government would soon look into the issue.

Former Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) president Lakhindan Bora, senior jourlist Prakash Mahanta, special guest at the programme Jayashree Goswami Mahanta, writer Mrilini Devi, Basanta Kumar Sarma and family members of late jourlists Ratneshwar Sharma Shastri, Nurul Haq, Muslimuddin Ahmed, Bimala Prasad Talukdar, Monikon Das, Anil Mazumdaar, Indra Mohan Hakasam, Jagjit Saikia, Kurmul Agarwal, Parag Kr. Das, Dipak Swargiary, and Jiten Chutia were also present at the function.
