mchi model attracts devotees

GUWAHATI, Sept 26: Geetagar Sarbajanik Durga Puja Samiti has depicted the mchi Sai Baba temple of North Sikkim in Guwahati. If mchi in Sikkim lures tourists, its model at Geetagar in Guwahati attracts devotees.

“Local artisans from Bilasipara had to break their sweat to make the model since August this year. The puja has a budget of Rs 25 lakh,” said puja committee publicity secretary Sanjib Goswami. He added: “Our idol is fully eco-friendly. We’ve used thermocol for the purpose. The idols depict the nine forms of Durga – called va Durga. We’re going to make live statues in front of the pandal on different themes. Local yatra parties are attraction on the cultural front. We’ve 12 CCTV cameras installed on the premises. There will be private security personnel and doctors on duty, besides police personnel.”
