GUWAHATI, Jan 21: The OBC Morcha of the BJP Assam Pradesh has appealed to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal for the creation of a separate Directorate for the development of the Other Backward Classes in the State. The Morcha met Sonowal recently in this connection.

According to Morcha, the development of other backward classes has been badly affected in the State as the welfare of backward classes is looked after by the Directorate of Plain Tribe that has the provision of spending only ten per cent of its Budget for OBC development.

The leaders of the Morcha further said that the existing OBC Corporation is not doing enough for all-round development of other backward classes. They said that only a separate directorate can ensure development of the OBCs in the State.

The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation of doing the needful.

The delegation led by Morcha president ndan Talukdar had 14 other members.
