GUWAHATI, Dec 25: Over 150 advocates from various parts of the State formally joined the Congress at a function at Rajiv Bhawan here today.

Presiding over the function held on the occasion, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora criticized Prime Minister rendra Modi for, what he said, Modi’s double standard and anti-poor and anti-people policies. “In the days ahead, the people of the country will give him a befitting reply,” Bora said.

The advocates who joined the party today said that they were fed up with Prime Minister rendra Modi’s ‘acche din’ and State Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal’s ‘paribartan’. “We opted to be with the secular Congress,” some of them said.

Meanwhile, along with rest of the country, the APCC is going to observe the 131st foundation day of the Indian tiol Congress (INC) on December 28, statewide. Bora asked all district Congress, block Congress and mandal Congress committee presidents to observe the foundation day of the INC in a befitting manner through semirs and debates. The APCC will centrally observe the day at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati with daylong programmes.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia, former ministers Rakibul Hussain and Sarat Barkataky, former Chief Minister Bhumidhar Barman, MLA Wazed Ali Choudhury and others were present at the function.
