Play catalytic role in post-GST, Governor urges CAs

GUWAHATI, Dec 15: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on Friday exhorted the chartered accounts of the Northeast to play a catalytic role to help people and business establishments in ensuring smooth transition to a new tax regime ‘One tion One Tax’ which has been necessitated in view of GST rollout. 
Iugurating the two-day tiol conference organized by the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India, Guwahati Branch held at Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts at Machkhowa here on Friday morning, Prof. Mukhi said that help and support from the chartered accountants would help the region in its smooth changeover to one tion one tax regime.  
“The fact that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is the premier accounting body of the tion, the conference will go a long way in empowering its members to keep pace with the rapid growth of the accountancy profession. I am happy that the institute has achieved recognition globally for its contribution in the fields of education, professiol development, maintence of high accounting, auditing and ethical standards,” the Governor said.
Prof. Mukhi said the role of Indian Chartered Accountants of India is crucial in strengthening the fulcrum on which the entire accounting system of the tion revolves. “I hope the tiol Conference becomes a brainstorming session of the Chartered Accountants which helps in strengthening our fincial magement system to a great extent,” he said.  
The Governor further said that the role of chartered Accountants has achieved added significance in the wake of demonetization drive guided by Prime Minister rendra Modi. Now the Chartered Accounts of the country have to contribute to the tion building exercise by virtue of their insight and foresight of the various advantages that the tion can gain by this momentous move. 
Prof. Mukhi said CAs are in a position to make India realize the long cherished dream of the forefathers of our tion which was of a corruption free India, where every citizen can be a partner in tion building. This India will be free and not plagued by the ills of black marketing, hoarding, corruption, red tape etc, he said.  
The conference witnessed the presence and participation of eminent dignitaries like Past Chairman of CBDT, RK Tiwari, Commissioner of State Taxes, Assam, Anurag Goel, President of ICAI, Vice President of ICAI, veen ND Gupta, CA, Amarjit Chopra, Past President ICAI and Present Chairman of tiol Advisory Committee on Accounting Standards (CAS), senior officers from the Income Tax Department, Guwahati and delegates from various parts of Assam and NE region.
The Chairman of the Guwahati Branch, CA Mahabir Agarwala delivered the welcome address and mentioned that the theme of the Conference – Catalyst: Resilient yet Versatile aptly mirrors the characteristics we Chartered Accountants are looked up by the world at large. The Chartered Accountants – the Partners-in-tion-Building – are the Catalysts: Resilient enough to withstand the turbulent times yet Versatile enough to elegantly embrace the socio-economic and political winds of change to foster Sustaible Development, to promote Economic Growth and to boost Global Cooperation. 
Sensitive issues of current relevance and public impact like Income Tax Evasion, Pelty and Bemi, Changing Accounting Standards and related critical issues for Companies under Companies Act, RERA, Input Tax Credit in GST and critical issues in government and other works contracts under GST are being brainstormed at the two-day mega conference which will continue till 16th December 2017. CA Raginee Goyal, maging the media affairs of the Conference informed that a colourful Souvenir with resourceful articles and information edited by CA Ankit Jallan was released at the Iugural function and a gala cultural eveningwas also organized amidst the conference, where Chartered Accountants will themselves perform, entertain and unwind. The conference was iugurated in the presence of CA Nilesh S Vikamsey, the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India amidst a gathering of almost 1000 delegates from across India. CGM of State Bank of India, NE Circle PVSLN Murty was the Guest of Honour.
