Plea to set up satellite channel in State

GUWAHATI, May 24: The Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha, a conglomeration of several tribal literary bodies of the State, has urged Prime Minister rendra Modi to set up a 24x7 satellite channel in Assam and make necessary arrangement to telecast at least one hour proggramme daily in Bodo, Karbi, Mishing, Tiwa, Rabha, Deuri, Garo and Dimasa.

The committee in a memorandum signed by general secretary Kamalakanta Mushahary also urged the Prime Minister to include news bulletin, spoken words with songs and drama.

The organization urged the PM to take steps for allotting at least 15 minutes time for news bulletin in the channel every day.

The committee in the memorandum stated that most of the states in India have been covered by 24 hour satellite channel including Aruchal Pradesh and that Assam has been left out in the process.

It may be mentioned that there are no proggrammes for other communities like Karbi, Missing, Tiwa, Deuri, Rabha, Garo and Dimasa. The population of these communities in Assam is around 60 lakh.
