GUWAHATI, Dec 3: The Sadou Asom Kalita Chatra Sanstha (SAKCS) has demanded of the Kalita MLAs in the Assam Legislative Assembly to put pressure on the government to form an expert committee for according ST status to the Kalitas. Addressing the press at Dispur Press Club today, SAKCS president Dipankar Kalita said: “We did prepare a report for according ST status to the Kalitas under Article 342 of the Constitution of India and submitted the report to the Scheduled Tribe Research Centre. However, even after the new government completing six months it has not formed the experts’ committee as yet. In such a situation we want all Kalita MLAs in the State Assembly to put pressure on the government so that Dispur forms the committee by the Winter Session of the State Assembly, failing which we’ll be compelled to go against the Kalita MLAs and the government.”

Kalita further said: “Dispur celebrating the birth anniversaries of Lachit Borphukan and Sui-ka-pha is a welcome gesture. However, how come the government forgets Kamrup kings Kumar Bhaskar Barman and Bhagadatta. Today, 5,084 years ago Bhagadatta fell in the Kurushetra Battle at Hastipur.  Though Dighalipukhuri in the city, dug by Bhagadatta, is used by many organizations for staging protest and demonstration there is no statue of the king.” The Sanstha raised the demand for immediate dismissal of officers recruited by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) by taking cash as soon as their corrupt practices are proved.
