R-Day Jourlism Award to Bhagawati

GUWAHATI, Jan 24: The Government of Assam has decided to confer the prestigious Republic Day Jourlism Award to prominent jourlist and Editor of ‘Dainik Asom’ Radhika Mohan Bhagawati honouring his lifelong and immense contribution in the field of jourlism in the State. Bhagawati, who will be first recipient of the Award, will be honoured on the State-level function of the Republic Day on January 26, 2017 at the Playground of College of Veteriry Science, Khapara.

Bhagawati will be honoured with an amount of Rs 1 lakh, a citation in copper plate, a japi, a sorai and an angabastra.

It may be noted that the ‘Republic Day Jourlism Award’ has been instituted under the Information and Public Relations Department to honour persons of eminence in the field of Jourlism. His journey as a jourlist started with ‘Notun Asomiya’ as a sub-editor in 1958, and then there was no looking back. As an Editor he served in six Assamese daily, including the ‘Ajir Asom’ for seventeen years, and was the founder Editor of three newspapers.
