Repair wires, transformers: DDMA

Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, June 30: A stark contrast – the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) has things in thousands to wire up, but officials manning the department are not live wires. They have woken up only after some lives have been lost.
ADC Pulak Mahanta, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the District Disaster Magement Authority (DDMA), had a meeting with the top officials of the APDCL on vulnerable electric wires and transformers that pose a threat to the lives of people. During the meeting the CEO of the DDMA asked the APDCL to repair the broken wires, repair the transformers that are vulnerable and raise their heights, wrap risky wires with fibre, trim plants under electric wires etc., within a week. The DDMA has also asked the APDCL to bring about awareness among the people on flood-affected areas along with the GMC so as to minimize accidents. He said that circle officers in Kamrup (M) would extend their help in this regard. The meeting held at the DC office here was attended, among others, by the APDCL chief engineer, the superintendent engineer, all executive engineers and assistant engineers.
