'Rollback provision to levy 5% ad valorem for power duty'

GUWAHATI, March 21: The North Eastern Small Scale Industries’ Association (NESSIA) has requested Chief Minister Sarbada Sonowal and the Fince Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma to rollback the proposed budget provision to levy 5 per cent Ad-valorem for electricity duty against the existing rate of Rs. 0.20 per unit. The NESSIA has welcomed the decision of the Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) on the new power tariff for the fincial year 2018-19. The NESSIA is the apex body for the micro, small & medium industries of the Northeast. It has Congratulated   AERC for reduction in unit rate for the first time in tariff history of Assam. This initiative by the AERC will give the much needed relief to the consumers of all categories. However, the NESSIA feels that the fixed charge increased in new tariff could have been relaxed. It also thinks that if the load survey of all consumers is carried out afresh there will be huge increase on fixed charge head and probably the AERC would have in at liberty not to enhance the fixed charge in tariff.
