From our Correspondent

DIMORIA, August 24: Looting in filmy style! A whopping Rs 19.91 lakh was looted from an NRL depot mager and his assistant when the duo was on their way to deposit the amount at the Jorabat branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) around 10.30 am today.

When mager Govind Sethi and assistant mager Omprakash Maheshwari were going to the bank riding on a motorcycle (AS-01-BQ8401), four persons who came in a Maruti van from the opposite direction stopped them at a spot which is a km from the Jorabat outpost. One of the four occupants of the van hit the mager on the head and the others threw chilly dust on the faces of the two, stched the bag holding the money and decamped towards Guwahati. The timing of the incident and the spot where it occurred suggest that the four were either in wait for the duo to arrive the spot or they were informed of the departure of the duo with the amount.

The police started their investigation. ACP Iftikhar Ali rushed to the spot. No arrest has been made so far.

According to allegations by the local people, the stretch between NRL oil depot and Patarkuchi in the Jorabat area is infamous for such crimes.
