Saikia for all-party delegation to Delhi, sends memo to CM

GUWAHATI, Dec 14: Leader of the Opposition, Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, has today in a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal demanded that the State Government must depute an all-party delegation to New Delhi for putting pressure on the Central Government on the three prime issues of the Hindu Bangladeshis, Greater galim, and the Brahmaputra pollution.

Pointing out that if the Hindu Bangladeshis who came to Assam till Dec 2014 are deemed as Indian citizens then the step would go be against the people of the State, Saikia demanded that such a move is opposed.

With reference to the Greater galim issue, Saikia in the memorandum to the Chief Minister said that under no circumstances should the territorial integrity of Assam be affected in any way in the me of the ga Framework Agreement signed by the Centre with the NSCN (IM).

The leader of the Opposition said that the Central Government must lodge a strong protest with the Government of Chi pertaining to the pollution of the Brahmaputra , the lifeline of Assamese people. Saikia expressed surprise as to why the Central Government has not been giving the importance that such an important issue calls for.

Adding that as a public representative, the Chief Minister should take the initiative to constitute an all-party delegation to apprise and pressurize the Central Governmnet to take due heed of the three burning issues of the people of Assam mentioned above.
