Silk Mark Expos underway in city

GUWAHATI, Sept 2: Silk Mark Expos, organized by the Guwahati chapter of the Silk Mark Organization of India, was formally iugurated by Assam Additiol Chief Secretary TY Das at NEDFi House here today. The expos will continue till September 6.
The organization’s Guwahati Chapter executive Dr. Mamata B Sarma informed The Sentinel that as many as 43 silk mark members and authorized users from across the country took part at the event – four from Bihar, 11 from West Bengal, two from Kartaka, one each from UP and Tripura, and the rest from Assam. “There’re more than 3,060 member-authorized users (AUs) of Silk Mark and over 246 Iakh silk mark labelled products in the market. These labels are not only a mark of purity but also inspire confidence in the buyers to purchase only the silk mark labelled products while buying silk thus increasing the demand for pure silk benefiting the sericulture farmers and other stake holders involved in silk,” she said, and added: “SMOI is maged by 11 chapters across the country under the strict supervision of corporate office in Bangalore spreading awareness about silks of India striving relentlessly to achieve the vision spelt out for silk mark as to protect the genuine interest of the silk consumers, to act as the frontline tool for the generic promotion of silk, to build a brand equity for Indian silk intertiolly and to become the common thread that connects all stake holders together and take care of the interest of all sections of the silk value chain.”
