GUWAHATI, Oct 8:  The Chay Jagosthia Mahasanmilan (CJMS) warned the Coordition Committee of Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCTOA) for its statement against the move to accord of ST status to the six ethic groups. “Those who will put hurdles in granting of ST status to the six ethnic groups – Moran, Tai- Ahom, Koch-Rajbongshi, Motok, Chutia and Tea Tribe – won’t be spared. The CJMS respects the socio-cultural identity, tradition, language and constitutiol rights of the sons of the soil,” CJMS president Devo Saikia said in a statement issued to the press today. “CCTOA was worried as to why the modality has been formed only for the six ethnic groups of Assam. However, the fact remains that the modality for the over 1,000 ethnic groups is being discussed by the Centre,” CJMS general secretary Kajol Gohain said.
