SOS Village  celebrates  Women's Day

GUWAHATI, March 9: SOS Children’s Village of India’s Family Strengthening Programme (FSP), Guwahati, celebrated Intertiol Women’s Day in the presence of Dr. Rita Rani Talukdar, HOD Psychology Department, Gauhati University in Rani Block.

Workshops on development of women empowerment and health and child education, besides experience-sharing sessions by beneficiaries, cultural programme by children etc. were held on the occasion. Some successful SHG members were also felicitated at the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, SOS Children’s Village of India’s secretary general Anuja Bansal said: “To bring a sustaible change in society, one needs to care for and invest in women. When we consider women, we are not just empowering a single individual but the entire family. In fact, at the heart of all our programmes and interventions, we believe in empowering women as caregivers.”

SOS Children’s Villages Guwahati has been strengthening 254 BPL families under its five-year FSP Guwahati project and reaching out to over (254)women in five localities of Mekurikuchi, Puranbari, tun Rani, Borbori and Monpur.

FSP is a preventive community intervention programme that covers over 17,000 children at 32 locations across India. Spanning 3 to 5 years, the programme aims to eble families to move out of the vicious cycle of poverty towards greater dignity and self-reliance by ensuring education of children and income generating capacity development of the care building and skilling programmes.
