GUWAHATI, June 9: Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasha moved the State DGP with a missive requesting him to inquire into the allegation levelled against him that he had made the release of an accused from Garmur police outpost possible under duress.

In a missive to the DGP, the MP said: “On June 3 some arms and ammunition were recovered from a place near my residence when I was at a meeting. On my way back home, I decided to inquire into the matter from the officer in-charge of the police outpost…At the police outpost I came to know that the police has already released the person – Amit Tanti – from whose residence the said arms and ammunition were recovered. However, Tanti was still at the outpost for completion of formalities… I inquire the police officer regarding the ‘Ezhar’ filed by the accused regarding a land grabbing case at Garmur outpost. I also inquired as to why a person from whose premises arms and ammunition were recovered was released, and requested him to investigate the matter properly.”

Tasha said that the OC of the outpost, instead of replying my questions, created a scene and revelled some baseless charges against him.
