Ten farmer producers' companies formed

GUWAHATI, Dec 6: In order to boost to the agri-business sector in the State ten farmer producers’ companies have been constituted in seven districts in the State by the Department of Horticulture and FP under Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yoja (RKVY). These companies will perform under the Companies Registration Act.

The purpose of the project is to form farmers group, especially small producers, at various levels across the State. The major objective of these companies is to link producers groups directly to market aggregators : eble integration of the agriculture value chain and bring agri-horti produce through capable market aggregators directly to consumers. Each project’s intervention will aim to mobilize at least 5,000 producers per district covering 15-20 members under Farmer Interest Groups (FIG) each at the village level.

At present Kamrup, gaon, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Morigaon and Sonitpur have been covered under this Farmers Producers Company, a press release issued by information wing of the Agriculture Department said.
