tiol Voters’ Day observed in city

GUWAHATI, January 25: The fifth tiol Voters’ Day was observed at Rabindra Bhavan in the city today along with rest of the state and the country. Speaking on the occasion, Assam Chief Election Officer (CEO) Vijayendra said that the tiol Voters’ Day was being observed in the country by the Election Commission of India since 2011 in order to bring about awareness on voting rights and increasing the poll percentage. Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Additiol Chief Secretary of Assam, Vinod Kumar Piperania said: “Poll percentage in Assam has been much higher after the initiatives taken by the Election Commission of India.” Copies of the new voters’ list of Assam were also distributed at the function.
