GUWAHATI, March 11: The valedictory function of a three-month residential ‘Suryamitra’ solar technician training conducted by the NB Institute for Rural Technology, in their Arka Institute of Green Energy, Guwahati, was held recently. The training was sponsored by the tiol Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) of Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) through the Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA). The free residential training provided comprehensive theoretical and hands on training to ITI and engineering diploma holders on installation and maintence of solar power plant and other solar devices.  Dr. Arup Kumar Mishra, Director, Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA), elaborated the scope of employment and entrepreneurship for trained persons in solar energy sector. He shared his experience from his recent visit to the USA where in many locations most of the houses are using solar rooftop systems for generating electricity. In some of the cities of California, a significant percentage of vehicles are now powered by solar-charged batteries.
