Under-trial dies

GUWAHATI, Oct 22: An under-trial prisoner, Tamizuddin Ahmed, dies at GMCH in the city on Sunday. Ahmed’s family members alleged that the death is shrouded by mystery. Tamizuddin was a resident of Hatigaon in the city. Then Bharalumukh PS OC inspector Uma Kanta Bora, SI Azijur Rahman and then SI Tamizuddin Ahmed (retired) were languishing in Guwahati Central Jail in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy in custody on February 9, 2017. The post-mortem report said that the boy had died ‘due to ante mortem injuries caused by blunt force impact. And, on intervention of the High Court, the police registered a case (413/17) against the trio’. According to jail authorities, Tamizuddin and Azijur were on the same bed on Saturday night, and around 3 pm Tamizuddin got up to answer ture’s call and fell ill. The jail doctor referred him to the GMCH where he was declared dead on Sunday.
