We're with people of Assam: AGP

Our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 25: The AGP says that it is with the people of Assam in so far as the Citizenship Amendment Bill is concerned.
AGP MLA Pabindra Deka said: “It’s a blatant lie that the Citizenship Amendment Bill was in BJP’s poll manifesto.”
AGP general secretary Dr. Kamala Kanta Kalita said: “The AGP, as has always been, is with the people of Assam. It doesn’t have to act differently at the diktat of the BJP. BJP MLA Prashanta Phukan has no right to criticize us. First thing is that the AGP isn’t run at his diktat. Moreover, he’s still to get rid of the taint he has for voting for the Congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha election, leading to his removal as the BJPLP leader. The AGP had to go for an electoral understanding with the BJP for the interest of Assam and responding to the call of the tiol leaders of the BJP. The stance of the AGP on all vital issues still stands. The decisions of the party are taken by its grassroots workers and the general masses.”
MLA Satyabrata Kalita said: “The BJP says that we haven’t sent any letter to them on our pulling out of the ruling coalition. Let the BJP make its stand clear before any missive from us who want Hindu Bangladeshi– the people of Assam or the BJP? The BJP’s contention that the Bill is opposed only in Assam, I would like to tell them that the Assam Accord was signed only for Assam, not for any other States. Hence we’ve much say on it.”
