Who'll head AGP? Party to me president today

GUWAHATI, Nov 26: Who will head the AGP from the front? This is a million dollar question as of now. The tenth triennial conference of the AGP began with the steering committee meeting of the party this morning. The party is set to form its new committee tomorrow.

The central executive committee meeting of the party was held this evening at party head office at Ambari in the city. The meeting discussed at length the activities of the outgoing executive committee. The general house meeting of the party will be held tomorrow when the party is going to form its new central executive committee. Though, according to sources, there is every possibility of selecting the new committee on consensus yet the necessity of an election for the formation of the new committee cannot be ruled out. According to sources in the party, the mes of party president Atul Bora and working president Keshab Mahanta have been doing rounds in the party. It is likely that the duo may be reelected, and in that event they will have to pick other members of the committee in consultation with other leaders of the party.

Sources, however, said that there is also the possibility of the one-man-one-post formula being raised in accordance with the party constitution in tomorrow’s general house meeting. Such a possibility looms large as both Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta are members in Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal’s Cabinet. Sources, however, said that the decision to be taken by the general house of the party is fil.

It is worth mentioning here that former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta came to the steering committee meeting when the meeting was almost over. He was coming from Delhi. Since the flight he was supposed to travel departed before schedule and that left him no option but to come in the very next flight. And that made him miss the all-important steering committee meeting that was held in the AGPLP conference hall in the Assam Assembly. However, after his arrival, Mahanta met the party president.
