GUWAHATI, March 28: The Guwahati Mati Pattakaran Sangram Samittee (GMPSS) has warned Dispur that it will not stop agitation till the 85,000 families in Guwahati are given land pattas.

The Samittee had its conference at Kailashpur in the Sarusajai area in the city today. Speaking at the conference, Samitee secretary Prabinjyoti Kalita said: “We have been agitation in support our demand for land pattas since 2002. The Congress government had to face the consequences of its deception to these 85,000 families on the issue of giving them land pattas. We’re hopeful of the present dispensation at Dispur in this connection. We appeal to them not to evict any indigenous people in the city without making any altertive arrangements for them. We appeal to Dispur to initiate the process for giving land pattas in the city.”

Earlier, Samittee president Prab Goswami said: “Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi assured us of giving land pattas repeatedly. Even the approval of the Cabinet committee was taken. The Cabinet committee of land patta headed by Bhumidhar Barman had a number of sittings with our committee. Even a decision was taken in one such meeting to give land pattas to landless in the city. However, we’re yet to get any land pattas even today.” The conference formed a 21-member new committee today and took a number of important decisions.
