Guwahati: The England cricket team, in honour of frontline workers combating against the Coronavirus pandemic across the world, wore jerseys with names of health workers as international cricket resumed in Southampton after a gap of 117 days.

It has been reported that one of the doctors nominated in the 'Raise The Bat' campaign was Dr. Vikas Kumar. He works at the critical care unit of a National Health Service (NHS) Trust hospital at Darlington in Durham.

"It was overwhelming to see Stokes and others putting that message out. It's been very difficult for all of us. NHS staff have made a lot of sacrifices. This recognition is for the entire medical fraternity, including my doctor friends in India," Kumar reacting to his name being featured on his jersey, said.

Vikas, who is an anaesthetist and also a cricket enthusiast, was very happy about it and dedicated this achievement to all the doctors across the globe, including his "friends in India."

It has been reported that Vikas had shifted to England in 2019 with his wife and two-year-old son, plays cricket for Gilli Boys Amateur Club, formed by Asian-origin players, and Cowgate Cricket Club. Vikas always wanted to be a cricketer and used to play for his medical college.

"I was a cricket fan, and played for my medical college, but all my family members were into studies. So I had to become a doctor like my brothers," Kumar gushed to media.

Alongside Kumar, there were three other Indian-origin health workers who also got featured in the campaign during the ongoing series against the West Indies. They are: Dr Jamasp Kaikhusroo Dastur, Harikrishna Shah, and Krishan Aghada.
